FPP FOCUS 2025: Education, Inspiration, and PPCF Excellence
Thereโs something special about walking into the Florida Professional Photographersโ annual FPP FOCUS Conference. Sure, you expect high-caliber photography education in Florida, hands-on workshops, and business tips you can apply right away โ but what you might not expect is how quickly it feels like home.
From nationally recognized photography speakers like Terri Baskin sharing her storytelling approach, to Kalina and Kelly Schneiderโs immersive pre-conference session on styling and photographing models, the energy was non-stop. โFOCUS was exactly the creative recharge I needed,โ said Michael Fried. โFrom the educational sessions to the hands-on photoshoots, every moment felt like a perfect mix of learning, networking, and pure creative energy.โ
Right from day one, the Professional Photographers of Central Florida (PPCF) were making our mark. At check-in, our own Jenny Eggers set up a creative โphoto boxโ composite shoot โ each attendee posed inside a prop box, and by the last day, everyone had a finished โclass photoโ that perfectly captured the spirit of this Florida photography conference.

Learning, Laughing, and Shooting Together
FOCUS is as much about connection as it is about education. Keith Pottinger described FOCUS as an energizing experience: โWith dynamic speakers, interesting photobooths, and a myriad of photographers to meet, Focus has many ways to keep attendees engaged.โ This year, PPCF sponsored a nighttime photo walk focused on long exposures and light painting. Our president, Rich Johnson, who led the photo walk, not only brought gear to share but also walked participants through camera settings and techniques.
We also ran two full-scale photo bays, giving attendees a chance to photograph everything from fashion models to gymnasts. โEach photographer brings a different perspective,โ shared model Thirl Hupp. โIf you keep an open mind, you walk away with so much more knowledge โ and the friendships you make here are just as valuable.โ
Deb Walker loved the variety of learning styles: โFour full days of learning, inspiration, and connectingโฆ each day had incredible classes from top photographers, shooting bays with a variety of models, and even a photo walk in the โwildโ for light-painting fun. My creative cup is overflowing!โ

When the Sun Goes Down, the Fun Turns Up
FOCUS nights are legendary, and this yearโs karaoke party was themed โShowing Up to the Wrong Party.โ Picture luau shirts, pajamas, X-mas sweaters, and plenty of laughter in between.
โEven if you donโt sing, you can be someoneโs backup dancer,โ joked Jenny Eggers, โand yes, itโs definitely a thing.โ Those spontaneous, joy-filled moments are just as much a part of the magic as the daytime learning.

PPCF: More Than Just Attendees โ We Show Up
One of the most rewarding parts of FOCUS wasnโt just the classes โ it was seeing PPCF membersโ photography work recognized at the Florida Professional Photographers competition. Sitting at that banquet table, cheering as fellow PPCF photographers walked up to receive their awards from the FPP president (who just happens to be a PPCF member) was unforgettable.
โFPP has always been a great source of inspiration and knowledge,โ reflected Susan Torregrosa, โbut even more importantly, itโs been my photography family. They welcomed me as a young photographer, and they continue to be an important part of my journey.โ
If youโve ever thought about entering Florida photo competitions but werenโt sure where to start, PPCFโs Image Review nights are your perfect first step. Every quarter, members bring their work for constructive feedback in a supportive setting. Many of this yearโs FPP award winners started right there โ testing their images at the guild level, refining them, and eventually earning recognition at the state banquet.
Itโs not just about winning; itโs about pushing yourself creatively and growing alongside others who want to see you succeed. And trust me, hearing your name called for First Place and Best of Show in your category, like I did this year, is a moment youโll carry forever.

Your Invitation for Next Year
FOCUS is more than a conference. Itโs a place to swap stories with photographers who understand the unique challenges and opportunities of working in Florida, to learn from industry leaders, to experiment with new techniques, and to leave with both inspiration and friendships that last.
As Deb Walker put it: โInvesting my time and money in this yearโs FOCUS Conference was priceless.โ Keith Pottinger added, “I would recommend going to Focus at least once. FPP is always doing some sort of buddy pass or discount to go. So why not check it out?”
Mark your calendars now. Join the Professional Photographers of Central Florida, join the FPP, start coming to PPCF Image Review – and next year, letโs cheer for you at that banquet table.
